What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant looks like a very small screw when you see it out of context. It’s designed to be placed into the jaw in the space left by a tooth, and there, it will meld with the bone through a process called osseointegration. This is what makes real tooth roots so strong, and as such, helps dental implants be extremely stable. One or more can serve as the foundation for any number of replacement teeth attached on top.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  • Initial Consultation: Are dental implants the right choice for you? Let’s talk about it! Your dentist will examine your mouth, discuss your options, and help you select the one that best suits your situation.
  • Placement Surgery: If you decide that dental implants are the way to go, we’ll perform the placement surgery in our office—no referral needed!
  • Healing Period: Your mouth will need about three to six months to heal, during which your implants will become firmly embedded in your jawbone.
  • The Big Day: And finally, when your mouth is ready, your dentist will place your new crown, bridge, or denture on top of your implants.
